The publishing experts we follow have plenty of craft advice to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Three kinds of story fuel: Barbara Linn Probst explores how goal, desire, and search can all independently — or concurrently — drive the narrative in fiction (Writer Unboxed).

  • When and why reveals don’t work: Tiffany Yates Martin breaks down the various shortcomings in the leadup that can make a big reveal fall flat to readers (Jane Friedman).

  • Why escapism and isolation are not the same thing: Most authors write at least partly (though of course not only) for readers, so author Joseph P. Macolino discusses what he means by escapism in terms of what it provides for readers (Writer's Digest).
