The publishing experts we follow have plenty of updates and advice on tech tools to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Elon Musk sues OpenAI: Dan Holloway sums up last week's legal development and links to a number of different perspectives on AI narration of audiobooks (Alliance of Independent Authors).

  • Consent-or-pay and bulk mailing rule updates: Holloway also explains Facebook/Meta's controversial consent-or-pay program and the changes that Gmail and Yahoo Mail policies are causing amongst newsletter senders (ALLi).

  • Act now to stop WordPress and Tumblr selling your content: Graham Cluley alerts users that the owner of these popular blog hosting sites is now making them opt out of having their work sold to selected AI companies, rather than having them opt in to sharing (H/T to Nate Hoffelder).

  • How to survive and thrive as a writer: Jodie Hurst, who advises businesses on smart use of technology, shares her thoughts on what the savvy author would do as AI becomes more prevalent (Anne R. Allen's Blog ... with Ruth Harris).
