The publishing experts we follow have plenty of craft advice to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • A mother lode of resources on talents and skills: Learn all the different ways that a character's skill or talent can interplay with your story as a whole (Writers Helping Writers).

  • Turn fact into fiction: Author Caroline Leavitt examines how to take someone else's lived experience and incorporate it into a novel without being successfully sued, both from her own career and from others' (Jane Friedman).

  • Six stages of building a story within an intricate world: Author Taran Matharu gives advice on developing the actual tale in a make-believe world, whether it's sci-fi, fantasy, or anything else (Writer's Digest).

  • Your lineage as a writer: Author Barbara O'Neal reflects on how in her writing and painting, her style gradually shed the obvious influences of masters, but not without their having benefited her craft (Writer Unboxed).
