The benefits of breaks for writers

Fussy staffers have recently been enjoying vacations, so this post is an easy one to share and stump for — the benefits of taking a break, both from Writer Unboxed contributors.

Author Jeanne Kisacky's piece is more about recognizing what she calls her "lazy writer tics," which she discovered by revisiting a long-forgotten novel draft.

That space away from the manuscript gave her fresh enough eyes to help her spot material to revise or cut altogether.

Author Sarah Callender's piece, meanwhile, is about what led her to declare she was taking a break from writing ... a short-lived break, as it turned out, but a crucial one nevertheless.
