The publishing experts we follow have plenty of craft advice to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • How to put a new spin on something that's been done before: Jody Holford shares how she made the idea of a character exploring a path not taken into a distinct novel of her own (Writer's Digest).

  • Character flaws: Desmond Hall introduces the three basic types of character flaws, the wounding events' connection to the flaws, and how to incorporate those events into your book (Writer Unboxed).

  • Writing the author's note for a novel: Jennie Liu provides some reasons why you might want to address the reader directly after your story concludes as well as general guidelines no matter what your reason (Jane Friedman).
