The publishing experts we follow have plenty of advice to offer, spanning a variety of topics.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Sensitivity reading in speculative fiction: Karen A. Parker, a sensitivity reader as well as an author, provides examples of moments in speculative fiction that undermine the writer's attempts to create an entirely different world, as proof that even this genre can benefit from sensitivity reading (Jane Friedman).

  • What is book bundling and how does it work?: Penny Sansevieri explains why this sales technique is worth trying, as long as you follow some basic best practices (Author Marketing Experts).

  • The arc of time: Dave King breaks down the general function and effect on the pacing of shorter versus longer timeframes in fiction (Writer Unboxed).

  • Reading like a writer: Michelle Barker walks you through how to deconstruct a novel that you know well, enjoyed, or hope to emulate a small feature of, so that you can learn from the other writer's success (Writers Helping Writers).

  • Self-publishing news: Dan Holloway provides a quick update on two copyright-related issues, one in the US and one in Europe (Alliance of Independent Authors).
