The publishing experts we follow have plenty of craft and creative process advice to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Turn real family stories into compelling historical fiction: Lindsay Marie Morris provides not just tips but actual examples from her own novel to illustrate how our ancestors' experiences can come to fictionalized life (Jane Friedman).

  • How to start dictating fiction: Sarah Elisabeth Sawyer's advice covers both the external and internal obstacles that many writers face when considering dictation — and if you're skeptical, consider that Sawyer didn't immediately take to the technique, so her advice truly is for anyone (Helping Writers Become Authors).

  • Pair your book's beginning and ending to satisfy readers: Suzy Vadori is no fun at movie night, because she's trained herself to spot clues in the opening scenes that merely hint at, versus fully revealing, how the story ends — and she teaches you how to do this in your novel (Writers Helping Writers).
