The publishing experts we follow have plenty of mindset advice to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • If book marketing feels miserable, read this now: Colleen M. Story unpacks the fears that power many writers' procrastination — and reluctance — toward marketing, to help make it feel somewhat easier (Jane Friedman).

  • How to push past the fear of never getting published: Even if you've already accomplished Lucy V. Hay's second tip — redefine "getting publish" to not limit yourself to a trad-pub deal — you may still have worries and feelings of inadequacy that she can talk you through (Writers Helping Writers).

  • Author blindness: Dave King reminds writers that no one, regardless of their level of experience, can see their own work through truly fresh and unbiased eyes — and that this is why you should both find and not feel discouraged by prepublication revisions (Writer Unboxed).

  • Hey readers, spice in fiction is still fiction: Author S.L. Woeppel was discomfited to hear from some readers that they assumed her steamier scenes were lifted directly from her own life ... and it made her a bit nervous about writing a novel about the apprentice to a serial killer (Women Writers, Women's Books).
