The publishing experts we follow have plenty of craft advice to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • How to use rotating point-of-view to engage middle-grade readers: Switching who's telling your story is perfect for readers of a certain age, who are themselves switching characters at various times; author Lindsay Champion provides her three practical tips for pulling this off smoothly (Writer's Digest).

  • Writing spicy scenes that are integral to the story: Author Abigail Owen takes the same approach to sex scenes as she does battle scenes — that is, with much thought given to a number of dimensions, including the physical action, emotional impact, internal thoughts, points of connection, and longer-lasting impact (Writer's Digest).

  • How to use dialogue for backstory and world-building: Conversations between characters can be a great way to share relevant information with your readers, and Jill Boehme shares how to do so without info-dumping (Writers Helping Writers).
