The publishing experts we follow have plenty of craft advice to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Popular story structure models that work: Becca Puglisi provides a primer on five established planning methods, which appeal to different styles of writers (Writers Helping Writers).

  • Finding horror in the everyday: Melissa Leanne Owen describes how she could frame the ambient sounds of letting her dog outside into something creepy, as an illustration of how there's creative magic in the little moments (Women Writers, Women's Books).

  • How writing fully-produced audiobooks changed my writing: Author Lucinda Berry describes how much more closely she paid attention to structural features like beats and the sounds of words and sentences, after working on audiobooks that included multiple narrators and cinematic effects (Writer's Digest).

  • The fracturing of the literary "weird girl": Author Heather Colley identifies a number of innovative structures in recent literature that allow the reader to enter the minds of unhinged characters (Writer's Digest).
