The publishing experts we follow have plenty of advice to offer, spanning a variety of topics.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Using setting to create conflict in fiction: Author Tanya Grant doesn't want you to just describe the location of your story — she wants you to use it to challenge your characters and force them to action (Writer's Digest).

  • Using the workplace to add depth to your novel: Writer, editor, and book coach Jennifer Landau offers prompts for how your characters' place of employment can make itself felt throughout the novel, even if it's not at the center of the plot (Jane Friedman).

  • Desmond's Drops: Desmond Hall provides a primer on three business aspects of writing - querying, loglines, and writing community (Writer Unboxed).
