Over the past several months, we’ve rebuilt the technology behind The Fussy Librarian’s free ebook newsletter.

This wasn’t a cosmetic update. It was a structural one.

Our goal was to improve the reader experience — and in doing so, create more sustainable visibility for authors. Here’s what that means in practice.

1. Your Scheduled Date Is Always Guaranteed

If you book a promotion with us, your scheduled date is locked in. That appearance will always happen.

That’s the foundation.

What’s new is what happens around that date.

2. Promotions Now Work Across a Window — Not Just One Blast

Every free ebook is eligible for additional exposure while it remains free.

If your book is free for a limited number of days (such as during a KDP Select promotion), it may appear more than once during that window if space allows.

If your book is free for 30 days or permafree, it remains eligible for inclusion during that period.

A few important clarifications:

  • Additional appearances never replace your scheduled date.

  • Books are capped to prevent overexposure.

  • Placement is determined by availability, genre fit, and fairness rules.

  • There’s no extra charge for these additional promotions.

This allows visibility to extend beyond a single 24-hour spike — especially for readers who don’t open emails every day.

3. Our Emails Are Now Personalized

No two subscribers receive the exact same newsletter.

Each email is generated based on:

  • The reader’s selected genres

  • Their e-reader preferences

  • Their activity patterns

This means:

  • Daily readers see fresh content consistently.

  • Once- or twice-a-week readers still discover books.

  • New subscribers are introduced to titles that are still free — even if they joined after your scheduled promotion date.

  • Instead of relying on one blast to the entire list, promotions are now distributed across reader behavior.

4. Universal Amazon Links (Even When Traveling)

We’re letting readers pick which Amazon store they want links to go to.

When a reader clicks a book:

  • If they’re in the U.S., they’re sent to the U.S. store.

  • If they’re in the U.K., Canada, Australia, etc., they’re redirected to their local Amazon store — if the book is available there.

5. Relevant Bargain Recommendations Within the Free Newsletter

In addition to free ebooks, readers will see a small number of discounted bargain titles within the free newsletter.

These are not randomly selected.

They are matched based on:

  • The reader’s chosen genres

  • Their e-reader preferences

  • Their past activity within our emails

This allows readers who discover a new author through a free promotion to also see related titles they’re more likely to enjoy.

As with free books, placement is limited and structured to avoid repetition.

6. Gmail Optimization & Improved Formatting

We’ve redesigned the emails to:

  • Eliminate clipping in Gmail

  • Improve load speed

  • Improve readability on mobile

  • Create cleaner visual spacing between titles

7. Why This Change Matters

For readers:

  • Better formatting

  • Correct store links

  • Less repetition

  • More relevant titles

  • Discovery that works whether they open daily or occasionally

For authors:

  • A guaranteed scheduled appearance

  • Additional visibility during your free window (when available)

  • Exposure to new and lower-frequency readers

  • Cleaner long-tail discovery

We’re not sending more email. We’re distributing smarter.

A Note on Results

We recommend evaluating performance over several days beginning on your scheduled promotion date.

Because visibility now extends across reader behavior, results may not appear as a single-day spike in the same way older email models did.

Our objective is sustained engagement — not just momentary volume.

If you have any questions about how your upcoming promotion fits into this structure, feel free to reach out.
