The publishing experts we follow have plenty of advice to offer, spanning a variety of topics.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • How to nail omniscient point of view: Book coach Heather Garbo provides five guidelines for ensuring that your all-knowing narrator is clearly established, consistent, and in control (Jane Friedman).

  • How to pitch podcasts as an author: Penny Sansevieri describes how writers can seek podcast appearances without sounding promotional (Author Marketing Experts).

  • Guided selling for authors: Readers are overwhelmed by an ocean of book options, but Orna Ross says that writers can use their websites, stores, newsletters, book pages, and reader links in a way that feels like a friendly — and appreciated — purchase recommendation (Alliance of Independent Authors).

  • AI news from creative industries: Dan Holloway reports that the Oscars have new, specific rules that require actors and writers to be human, not AI, and that a Canadian publishing study has found fairly unsurprising uses and fears of AI in that industry (Alliance of Independent Authors).
