One of the most common questions we receive is whether readers continue discovering a book after its guaranteed promotion date.

This free-ebook promotion provides a good example of why the answer is often yes.

Promotion Summary

  • Total appearances: 4

  • Total clicks: 2,700

  • Additional clicks after initial promotion date: 1,800

Placement History

  • June 2: Free Ebook Newsletter

  • June 3: Free Ebook Newsletter

  • June 5: Free Ebook Newsletter

  • June 6: Free Ebook Newsletter

Although the guaranteed promotion date delivered the largest share of reader activity, the book continued reaching readers throughout the remainder of its free period.

Approximately two-thirds of all clicks occurred after the initial promotion date.

The important takeaway isn't that every promotion will follow this exact pattern. Rather, it's that free promotions should be evaluated over the entire promotional window rather than just the first day.

What We Learned

A reader who misses Tuesday's newsletter may open Wednesday's. Another reader may only open emails on weekends.

Multiple appearances create multiple opportunities for discovery.

That's why we encourage authors to look at the cumulative results of a promotion rather than focusing exclusively on launch day.
