A writer’s goal is to bring readers into the internal and external life of their characters.

By that we mean, welcoming your reader inside a character’s head and also allowing him or her to experience the story’s setting.

Sure, you can describe the visual details of your novel’s places, but C.S. Lakin shows how using all five senses can breathe far more life into your scene by editing a plodding passage into a vivid one.
