What’s the secret to an adrenaline-spiking action scene? Well-rounded characters!

Okay, so we’re oversimplifying Joshua Essoe’s interview on the fine points of writing action scenes.

Essoe, the author of Essoe’s Guides to Writing: Action Sequences, told Mignon Fogarty that while clever choreography can make for an interesting fight scene, providing emotional context for the fight — through character development — will keep a reader interested for much longer.
