The silver lining of a number of uncomfortable emotions is that they can be put to good use in fiction.

Take guilt, for example.

Those of us who carry it (fairly or unfairly) probably don't enjoy it, but it affects our actions for quite some time afterwards.

And understanding a character's motivation and backstory is critical to writing compelling fiction.
