Jane Friedman hasn't flip-flopped on her previous opinion that author newsletters can be valuable marketing and branding tools.
She's simply suggesting that, after seeing many lackluster examples, authors who don't have the right strategy for them save their time and energy for other projects.
Friedman explains the shortcomings of these author blogs and newsletters so that you can judge whether yours are on track — and so, if they're suffering from the same flaws, you can either decide to right the ship or move on from the project.
