There have been a few changes coming — or already arriving — in the Kindle world.

In terms of what you can read on the device, there's a gain and a loss; specifically, you can send EPUB books to them, but MOBI and AZW support will end this year.

Also disappearing: the ability to buy ebooks (and other things) in the Kindle app. 

Amazon will no longer sell items in its Kindle app for Android, because of Google Play's new billing requirements.
