Kristine Kathryn Rusch says that some writers fail by quitting — "duh," you might think.

But she's not talking about those who completely step away from the profession.

She's referring to those who put out some material, but not all that much, and then are surprised when their careers putter along at the same slow rate.

After all, she says, singer-songwriter John Mellencamp recently told an interviewer that he produces about one good song for every hundred he writers.
