C.S. Lakin won't lie: Writing a good hook is hard (in her opinion, harder than it looks).

It helps if you already have a compelling premise and plot, the right starting point, and a strong voice for the point-of-view character ... all of which require a fair amount of elbow grease already.

But Lakin can at least explain what a story hook is and the qualities of a strong one, along with providing examples, in her post at Live Write Thrive on story hooks.
