Author and trained fighter Carla Hoch has noticed there are two different camps when it comes to fight scenes in fiction.

One camp wants them to feel realistic, not full of witty banter or scathing insults, all spoken in an easy-to-understand tone of voice.

Another camp argues for the joys of suspending disbelief, saying that’s part of the fun of fiction.

Whichever route you choose, Hoch has some suggestions on where to insert dialogue in your fight scenes as well as how to avoid making it cheesy.
