Fandoms are famous for their strong, passionate opinions.

Which is great when their opinion is positive ... and a little intimidating when their opinion is negative.

But either way, their thoughts can be instructive.

The Passive Voice shared an essay from CNET recently in which one writer expounded on the need — or lack thereof — for prequels to works in a variety of mediums (including books).

Some work well; others, not so much.

And the reason for that is that some prequels fail to demonstrate an actual need — that is, nothing new is provided that complements the original work.
