I have a writer friend whose career was as a defense attorney for high-profile cases. He's writing legal fiction now, and his approach there is the same as his trials: Present the information for the reader similarly to how he would present to a jury (via evidence, witnesses, cross-examination, summary etc) -- because the "jury" is equivalent to the reader who is the audience of the book.
